Early results show voters voted to recall the controversial judge.
If successful, it would be the first time since 1932 that voters in California recalled a sitting justice.
Nearly 59 percent of voters agreed that Persky should be recalled.
Persky gained national notoriety in June 2016.
He sentenced former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner to six months in jail for sex assault.
Uproar over the sentencing was fueled in part by an open letter from the anonymous victim.
In the letter she recounted Turner’s raping of her in graphic detail.
